Brittan McCarthy (OA 2003-14) – embarks on 4,500 mile bike ride for Cancer Charity

Former Ashville student Brittan McCarthy (OA 2003 – 2014) will be taking part in a sponsored bike ride from Austin, Texas to Anchorage, Alaska to raise funds for a Texan Cancer research charity.

Brittan is studying Biomedical Engineering at The University of Texas in Austin and she will take part in the 4,500 mile bike ride in June 2018 along with 80 fellow students. This is the longest annual bike ride in the world taking 70 days to complete.

Brittan said, “I am personally riding for my uncle Allen, who was diagnosed with thymus cancer and fought it for seven years. Unfortunately, three years ago he lost his battle. I also ride for my aunt JoAnne, who shortly after my uncle passed was diagnosed with cancer too.

“If you would like to contribute to the cause you can make an online donation by visiting Brittans rider profile at: and simply click ‘Donate’.

Brittan continued “Any amount you can donate will be greatly appreciated – no donation is too small. I am so excited to be a part of the 2018 Texas 4000 team and start taking steps towards fighting cancer. Thanks for joining me on this adventure!”

Information Update

We are attempting to improve our current database of information on old Ashvillians in the hope that we can put it to better use in future to help both past and present students.

It would be really useful if you could fill in this quick online form with your current details (even if you think we have them).

Many thanks.

If you have a story, feature, letter or photograph you would like to submit to the website or the Update, please email Tom.

And thank you for your contributions without which the Update would not exist!
